Chung Mong-kyu, president of the Korea Football Association, who succeeded in his fourth consecutive term, postponed the appointment of the fourth executive at the regular general meeting of delegates.

The Korea Football Association held a regular general meeting of representatives in 2025 at a conference room inside HDC I-Park Mall in Seoul's Yongsan district on Tuesday afternoon. Twenty-five of the 34 current delegates attended the general meeting. Chairman Chung was reported as the 55th president of the Korea Football Association on the day.

The general meeting was held on the 28th of last month when the Korea Sports Association approved Chung's approval as president of the Korea Football Association. In the 55th presidential election of the Korea Football Association held on February 26, Chung was elected with an overwhelming 85.7% of the vote, winning four consecutive terms.

Regarding the appointment of executives, the rules of the sports association's member sports organizations state that "the president of full-time and associate-member organizations among member sports organizations must obtain necessary documents and obtain approval from the sports association." If there is no defect in the election process or reason for disqualification of the elected person, the sports association must approve it.

Chairman Chung planned to bring young soccer players to the executive branch after his election, but it is known that he is having difficulty forming the executive branch as the soccer players who received Chairman Chung's proposal rejected it.

At the press conference for the election last year, Chairman Chung said, "Until now, several stars including Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo, and Lee Dong-gook had been having discussions at the association. The next candidates need not only experience as a soccer coach but also experience in administration," adding, "Young talents need to participate in the administration of the association."

"Currently, the president of the Japan Football Association has been the general secretary (former national team player) for several years and is the president of the association. However, Chung did not announce the appointment of executives at the general meeting due to various reasons.
